How it all started...
Founder, Meegan Vellek grew up always loving birthdays. Whether it was celebrating her own birthday or celebrating her friends! She fondly remembers having "Happy Birthday" sung to her and making a wish before blowing out the candles on a cake made just for her! After having children, birthdays took on a whole new feel. She took such delight in planning and celebrating each of her boys' birthdays! With a background in social work, the wheels starting turning. After attending an event in the community, an idea started brewing and she found a new passion. Every child has one day that is unique to them...their birthday, but she also knew that there are families in the community who have day to day struggles and may not be able to help their child celebrate. After wrestling with what to do she took a leap of faith and Project Surprise Party was born! From a crazy dream to a 501(c)3 we are so excited to help children celebrate their birthday!

Our Mission
Our Mission is to ensure every child experiences the joy and magic of their birthday, regardless of their family's circumstance. We believe that every child deserves to celebrate their special day with love, laughter and the simple joy of blowing out candles and opening a present just for them! Through our mission we provide a birthday package that includes a birthday present (valued at $75), age-appropriate book, cake, candles, card and balloons, as well as plates, forks and napkins for 10 people!

Ladies, join us Friday, March 28, 2025 from 6:30-8:30pm for some appetizers, desserts and drinks. There will be local vendors on site with some awesome Spring finds! What we do...
PSP serves children 1-18 who reside in douglas and sarpy county. Children are referred to project Surprise party from schools and other agencies in the community. Once we receive the referrals we shop for that child putting together a birthday package just for them! The package is then delivered back to the school or agency for the family to pick up so the child never knows, hence the "surprise" in our name! We are grateful for our referral partners! in just two short months we have received 12 referrals! That's 12 children who experienced the joy of opening a birthday present just for them, blowing out candles and eating birthday cake! We couldn't do it without the help of our community! Thank you to family Fare for partnering with us to make wonderful cakes!
